5 Things to Know About Drake's New Playlist
By: Kyle McCann
Saturday night was the night Drake fans have been waiting for for months! The superstar finally dropped his highly anticipated (don't call it an album or mixtape) playlist, More Life.
The ambitious follow up to Views has been something Drake has been teasing fans with for a long time. In an interview back in November, Drake said he created the playlist to "bridge the gap between" his major releases. The Canadian rapper says he wants the tracks to be the soundtrack of of your life. Turns out, the 22-track anthology could very well do it. But, before you get your hands on it, here are 5 things we think you should know about it.
5. Kanye may have teased the track he's featured on, "Glow," months ago.
4. Drake can't seem to chill out with the shots at Meek Mill.
Quite a few shots fired on More Life, including the line "All you did was write the book on garbage ass Rollies" on "Lose You" and "How you let the kid fightin' ghostwritin' rumors turn you to a ghost?" on "Free Smoke."
3. Dude clearly has a thing for island music. Thanks, Rihanna (maybe)!
Drake loves giving his music an island feel (seriously, don't you think that has to do with his bizarre relationship with Rihanna). Anyway, these latest songs are no different, especially on the tracks “Madiba Riddim” and “Blem.” Funny thing since usually rappers stick to what they know best, and we're fairly certain that Canada is not known for its tropical beaches.
2. He drunk texts his exes just like us... expect our exes aren't J-Lo.
On "Free Smoke" he raps, “I drunk text J-Lo. Old number, so it bounce back.” Also, listen to "Teenage Fever" and see if you hear Jennifer Lopez's 1999 hit "If You Had My Love" ... hmmmm.
1. Could Drake be telling fans he's about to take a break?
We sure hope that Drake isn't telling us he's going to take a break from music for awhile, but it's hard to not consider the possibility when you listen to the last lines of the playlist's last song, "Do Not Disturb." Just before the music ends, Drake spits, “Taking summer off cause they tell me I need recovery. Maybe gettin’ back to my regular life will humble me. I’ll be back in 2018 to give you the summary.”
